Does anyone know whether it is allowed to take pictures for private use in either one of the two railway museums in Beijing? I noticed that, when I visited the Shanghai one, taking pictures was only allowed outside the building.
The railway models sold in the museum, are they at normal shop prices or do they differ from those?
You can indeed take pictures in the eastern railway museum, as long as you don't use a flash.
The museum is very easy reachable by public transport - from Qianmen it takes less than two hours - off peak hours - by metro and bus, if you don't miss the connecting bus like I did. Line 629 runs one or two times every hour; take it by going through exit C of Wangjing metro station and walk some 100-200 m SE onto Guangshun nanjie and get off at the bus depot / terminus. After that, walk for about 10-15 min. to the main entrance of the museum. Cross the railway, the highway and turn left. I saw a lot of taxi's outside the museum; most of them were - I expect - hired and asked to wait to pick up those they brought to the museum earlier.
