BEIJIAO : A CHINESE EXHIBITION LAYOUT

Post by TEAMYAKIMA » 07 Sep 2011, 09:28

Hello

It's time for me to start thinking about actually building an exhibition Chinese HO layout - having built several exhibition layouts in other scales/gauges over the last 40 years.

I hope to have the first large Chinese HO layout on the exhibition circuit in the UK - I think it would be a big PR boost for Chinese HO modelling to get such a layout to something like the National Model Railway Exhibition at the NEC ( the Warley show).

I plan to have three "lines"

1. A double track China Rail line

2. A single track Ji-Tong style line

3. A Chengde style industrial line

Is there anyone out there who lives in the UK who would like to help? You could contribute either by and actively taking part in layout building or maybe you might like to contribute by making buildings etc "off site".

So is there anyone out there who wants to get involved in a big ambitious Chinese HO layout? - please let me know.

Well, it's now June 2012 and work on my Chinese HO exhibition layout is about to begin.

I have bought a state-of-the art garden workshop to build and store the scenic boards but as the whole layout will be 26ft x 10ft it will only be fully assembled at exhibitions.

Please contact me on teamyakima@hotmail.com or me on 01923 353769 if you would like to be part of the team needed to make this ambitious project a reality

Nice! :) I will be happy to being able to see the project grow! :D

However, I can hardly find any time for my own project recently, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help to you...

Paul,

Re the tenements, have you seen http://www.redstarrailways.com/rsrmodels.asp. Someone seems to have done some work already :-)

Hello Mark

Thanks for this.......

Yes I have some samples of these ....... trouble is that I need 15 ft of these buildings and I think laser cutting whole walls will be cheaper and quicker than fabricating with these.

But thanks again for the thought - keep the ideas coming

Just to let you all know that this project continues to make progress.............

The layout is 26ft x 10ft ... of which the scenic section is four baseboards making a scene 20ft x 3ft

So, there are curved boards at each end leading to my new 18 road fiddle yard. Ther are four scenic tracks .... one double track China Rail line and two bi-directional single track lines.

All baseboards are made ...... 99 % of fiddle yard trackwork is laid with the 55 points all having motors fitted.

90% of the scenic trackwork is laid.

The layouit is bigger than my workshop and so I will have to hire the local church hall to test it some time in 2015.

I am hoping to display it at an exhibition some time in 2016

Help is still welcome ..... either with the building or the exhibiting.... please send me a PM if you're interested in getting involved.

Just to say that this layout continues to progress although its first exhibition has been pushed back to Bristol 2018.

Always looking for help - I need to form an experienced exhibition operator team.............. any interest?
