CMR P64K BOX CAR - colour issue

Postby TEAMYAKIMA on 29 Nov 2017, 20:24

The new CMR P64K has been criticised for its over bright red paint scheme.

I got some last month and so today decided to weather one down. I'm happy with the result.....

Nice work, I especially like the cleaned-off road number and car data areas. Seen this in a picture of a C70, if I reember well - the entire car was some dull tone of dark gray, and it was only the clean patches around the road number and data that showed the original blue paint.

Did you mask these spots off before painting, or just wash away the weathering afterwards?

Cheers,
Zsolt

Folks,
With regard to the colours of Chinese freight stock, I doubt that every new freight car has been painted in the same colour, no matter where it was made.
Even in China, with its regimented methods, paint quality and colour must vary slightly from one batch to the next, particularly with the wagon red, perhaps not so much with the dark grey.
Also, how well the painting is done, some shops might just slap it on to get the job done quickly.
A repaired wagon could have one panel newly painted in a different red to the faded or weathered rest of the wagon.
Weather or fade to the best of one's ability, but don't bust your gut about the accuracy of the as built paint colour!
Regards,
Bill,
Melbourne.
