Kunming Railway Museum

Very interesting with historical displays of the mg to Vietnam and also of the new high speed line to Kunming in the old North station building. Across the mg tracks is the display hall with locos and mg rolling stock well spaced out for photography and galleries to get an overall view.

S.G. ... SY 0388, DF3 2058, DF2 3279, RZ250T 110875 (emu)
M.G. ... 29 0-10-0 BLW, KD55 583, ST774 2-6-4T (ex Burma), DFH21 001, Michelin railcar

M.G. Lines clearly used but nothing passed while I was there 1115-1215.

Cheers

I missed the metre gauge during steam days - sounds as if it might still rate a visit!

Only a few trains every day hauled by a DFH locomotive and type 25k-like coaches (used to?) pass or end there every day. A depot is visible from the museum bridge across the station.

But maybe there are even less trains than a few years ago when I visited that museum. The locomotive is or used to be turned 180 degrees (triangle track) at least once a day, southbound of town. Only a very small part in the Kunming city area (from either end of Kunming huoche bei zhan) is served by a passenger train. It seems that freight trains drive more regular outside the Kunming area, southbound but not anymore into Vietnam.

There are or used to be organized hiking tours from Kunming North station alongside the railway line all the way to Vietnam.

In addition, there are extensive building works to east of station which looked like something to do with new metro.
