the Dutch steamlocomotives in China

I found some artikels about this steamlokomotives . Hier is a little bit of the history off those engines . I hope that everything is translated correctly . I had help of google for it . Don't blame me for mistranslations .

The basis of the railwaysystem in China where build by European and American companies .One of them was the “Compagnie General de Chemin de Fer et Tramway en Chine” better known as the Lung Hai Railway . It was a very importand east-west railwayline from the harbour of Haitcheou (Haizhou) , on the Ling Hong Hu (Linhong keku) river to Singaufou(Xian) .
They start building it in 1904 , with the first part of 196 km from Kaifang to Luoyang . This part was ready in 1910 . The city of Xuzhou was reached in 1916 , Haizhou in 1925 and Lianyungang in 1934 . That was to the east . To the west they reached Lingbao in 1927 and Xian in 1935 .
After the second World War the railwayline was completed in juli 1953 . In that year Lanzhou was reached . The railway line was now 1759 km long . Between 1956-1970 the section Zhengzhou-Baoji was upgraded to dualtrack line . In the seem period the railway near Sanmenxia was rerouted due to the Sanmanxia reservoir-projekt . In 1980 the section between Zhengzhou and Shangqi was converted to dueltrack .

The Lunghai Railway had an office in Brussels . So it was not strange thet a part of the rollingstock came from Belgium . This office let a combination of locomotive factories build some types of steamlokomotives . Companies involved where :
Les Ateliers Metallurgiques , Tubize , Belgium
Haine St.Pierre , Belgium
Cockerill , Seraing , Belgium
De Société Alsacienne de construction Mechaniques , Graffenstaden , France
De Nederlandse fabriek van Werktuigen en Spoorwegmaterieel (Werkspoor) , Amsterdam , the Netherlands

In 1924/1925 dilevered Tubize 20 , Haine St.Pierre 2 and Werkspoor 8 “consolidation”(1’D) steamlokomotives to the Lunghai Railway . This was a development of Tubize . In 1936 followed by several more moderne engines build by the French . This engines had the same mainmessurements as the original from 1924/1925 . This class is to be believed the KD2 class .
The Werkspoor buildernumbers where 544-546 (Lunghai 305-307) and 550-554 (lunghai 312-316) .

In 1935 where 15 “pacific”(2’C1’) steamlokomotives delivered to the Lunghai Railway . Of which 3 where build by Werkspoor , buildingnumbers 704-706 (Lunghai 513-515) . This enginetype was developed by Cockerill . Also Haine St.Pierre and Tubize build some of those pacifics .

I was in China in 1985-86-87 (4 times in total) . In the depot of Huhehot we ( our travel group) where spoken to by the depotstaf . They told us about the railwayhistorie of Hohehot and also about some of the engines . They mentioned also a steamlokomotive from the Netherlands .
I know , at that time , that there where build some engines in the Netherlands for China and was asking for details . After a little discussion amoung the stafmembers the answer was : That the engine was scraped some time ago . How long ago they did not know .
So the last Werkspoor pacific could have done her last duties from Hohehot depot . They older pacifics where replaced by the stonger and faster Chinese pacifics . This Chinese pacifics where last year already replaced by the QJ’s . Unles their lower speed they could pull the heavy passengertrains on time . Just a few years later the QJ’s where on their turn replaced by the “newer” diesellokomotives type DF4B .

The frame of this pacific was constructed out of 2 pieces . The front part was build as a barframe. The bars where 100mm thick . The rearpart was as a sheetframe and was 65 mm thick . This rearpart was placed inside the frontpart to make place for the sideways deflection of the rear “Bisseltruck” The boiler could expand freely to the back.
Not only the materialthicknes where restricted to the minium , also the drive- couple- and “Bissel”axes and coupling- and drivetaps where hollow . On this way could a light but strong engine with a compact build be constructed . The “Bisselax” (rear) was build as “Weber”patent with outsite barrings .
The boiler could be heated with fuel of a low calorific value . Because of that the gratesurface and the heated surface was big . The boiler was because of that relative heavy .
The boiler was excisting out of a cylindrical boiler and a steel outsite firebox with a copper insitefirebox . The topplate of the insidefirebox was bend , that of the outsite firebox round .
On the boiler where placed : 2 injectors with a capacity of 17,5 m3 a hour , blower , soot blower , heating , “Friedmann”lubricationpumps , 2 level appliances type “Klinger” , 2 Pop safety valves , 5-tone steamwhistle , “Hasler”tachometer , “Westinghouse”brake (automatic and not automatic on all wheels , coalnozzle , a “Alco”servomotor for the steamslidemovement patent “Walschaert” , electric tubogenerator , vibrating grate and a airpump . The 2 last where working on superhated steam . The steamlokomotive could be fitted with an automatic stoker .
The tender was build on 2 2 axes “Diamond”trucks with “Athermos”bearings . Further it was fitted with 2 50 tons jacks for emercengies .
The engines where fitted with a central couplingssystem after American model . Because of that the “Werkspoor”engines were transported from the factory in Amsterdam to Antwerp by lighter (schip) . From here where they transported to China together with the in Belgium build engines .
