in-cab signaling on Qj locos.

Postby ben_issacs on 29 Jun 2018, 11:11

Folks,
In Robin Gibbon's recent book on the QJ locomotive, there are some shots of QJs fitted with what seems to be some form of in-cab signalling.
On the tenders of these engines below the frame and on the R.H. side, between the bogies is a box.
I suspect that this might be similar to the German Indusi system, developed pre-war and used after the war by both West and East Germany.
This system has a receiver on the loco or tender, picking up signals from trackside transmitters and displaying them in the loco cab.
If it is an Indusi system, it is likely that it came to China from East Germany.
It probably was only fitted in one Bureau on a test basis.

Folks,
In re my post on in-cab signalling, the box is fitted on the left hand side of the tender, not the right as I wrote.
