Yunnan-Kopei Railway map.

Postby ben_issacs on 27 Feb 2018, 10:14

Folks,
A long while ago I got an early map of the then 2'-0" gauge Yunnan-Kopei Rly, Kunming to the Vietnamese border.
A fascinating line, appears to be very scenic, tunnels and bridges galore!
The latitude and longitude figures on the map didn't seem to tie up with my atlas figures, I found out that as this line had been built by the French, they had used their own decimal based lat. and long. figures, called 'Grades', very confusing!
I don't know whether this same decimal system is used in France now, I rather doubt it!
Regards,
Bill,
Melbourne.

Dear Bill

This meter gauge railway line was an outstanding engineering work and it is fortunate that this line was preserved.

The best map in HD of the line that I found online is at this URL
http://belleindochine.free.fr/images/Yu ... eraire.JPG

To help you with geodesic conversions you may have a look at this pdf document which is in French but which includes conversion tables
http://www.ign.fr/sites/all/files/geode ... onnees.pdf

I hope that these information will help you in your search..

Kind regards from France.

Dear petit-panda,
Thanks for that info., the map is very similar to the one that I have.
Certainly a great engineering feat by the French surveyors and engineers!
